Intro to Embodied Consent

Saying "yes" with your words and actually feeling "yes" in your body are two different things.

Most people were never taught the difference — so when their body feels uneasy even after agreeing to something, they think something's wrong with them.

Nothing is wrong with you. You just never learned to notice the gap.

This work happens on every level — physical, emotional, mental, energetic, and spiritual. Your "yes" isn't just one thing; it's all of these agreeing at once, and this session helps you start noticing when they don't.

What happens when you only listen to your mind's yes:

  • You override your body's signals so often, you stop being able to hear them at all

  • Discomfort doesn't go away — it just gets pushed down, until it shows up later as exhaustion, anxiety, or shutdown

  • You say yes to things you don't actually have capacity for, then feel resentment or burnout without knowing where it came from

  • It gets harder to tell the difference between excitement and danger, or between real rest and avoidance

  • You become easier for others to override, because you've already practiced overriding yourself first

  • Small, ignored "no's" build up over time — until your body forces a stop, often at a harder moment than if it had been heard early on

Your body has been trying to tell you something, and nobody ever taught you the language to hear it.

What to expect in this session:

  • Everything slowed down — no rushing

  • Explanation as we move through it together, so you always know what's happening

  • Checking in on what your body needs for support, on every level

  • Continued check-ins throughout — not just once at the start

  • An introduction to co-regulation

  • An introduction to your nervous system's language

  • An introduction to relational work

How the session is set up:

We'll start with a short chat. You'll have the choice of sitting in a hammock chair or a sturdy chair, whichever feels right to you. Then you'll get comfortable on a massage table for the rest of our time together. The goal is simple: get you as physically comfortable as possible, so it's easier to actually hear what your body is telling you.

*For practitioners: This isn't just for clients new to this work — it's foundational for practitioners too. Whatever modality you already practice — somatic work, energy work, coaching, bodywork — this skill sits underneath all of it. Knowing whether someone's whole self (mind, body, and beyond) is actually with you, not just their words, is what makes any technique you use safer and more effective.

This is an introduction — one session builds awareness, not mastery.
